Traveling with a piercing is absolutely possible. All it takes is a little attention, the right products and a few small rules. In this article I will explain what to know before traveling with a piercing , how to take care of it and what to always bring with you to avoid discomfort while enjoying your vacation.
🌊 Piercing while traveling: sea, pool and what you can (or can't) do
A question that many of you ask me every year: “Pippo, I just got a piercing... can I go to the beach?” Simple answer: yes, but with some precautions.
Sea bathing is not recommended for at least 10 days
Swimming should be avoided for at least 3-4 weeks
Exposing yourself to the sun? You can do it from the first days
Beware of sand, dirty towels, chafing
The point is not “don’t go”, but to know what you can do if you have a piercing while traveling . You can safely go to the beach, sunbathe, go out in the evening… The important thing is not to dive into the water too early and not to neglect cleaning .
🧳 Travel Piercing: What to Pack to Take Care of It Well
In addition to your swimsuit and sunscreen, I recommend bringing a small travel piercing care kit . Here's what you should never be without:
Saline solution or specific spray for aftercare
Sterile wipes
Cotton pads or swabs
Backup piercing (you never know)
If you want to play it safe, I recommend products from Base Laboratories , an American company I work with. They specialize in piercing aftercare and have travel-size sprays (under 100 ml) , perfect for carry-on luggage on a plane . I use them personally and always recommend them to my clients when they travel.
✈️ Piercing and metal detector: no problem
Every year I have at least one customer who asks me if the piercing rings on the metal detector. Answer: no, don't worry. Piercings (like earrings) don't ring anything . There's no need to remove them or cover them. Unless you travel with a nose iron, you're fine 😅
😬 Travel Piercing: How to Handle Vacation Hassles and Problems
If you notice redness, swelling, yellow discharge, or persistent pain, don't wait until you get home. There's no need to panic, but there's no need to ignore the problem either.
✅ Clean the piercing well
✅ Avoid sea, sand, rubbing
✅ Evaluate whether it is necessary to temporarily remove the jewel (depends on the area)
If you need a hand, you can book a 20-minute video consultation on my website . We connect via video call, you explain the problem, and I guide you step by step on how to solve it — even remotely.
🎁 Bonus: Belly button piercing? I have prepared a complete video for you

The navel piercing is one of the most requested in the summer… but also one of the most delicate. For this reason I created an on-demand video for over an hour , in which I explain:
How to cure it
What to absolutely avoid
The most common problems
Professional tricks and solutions
🎥 It only costs €9.90 and you can watch it whenever you want, as many times as you want.
📌 In conclusion
Having a piercing while traveling is not a problem. With a few precautions you can enjoy the summer without stress, inflammation or unpleasant surprises. You don't have to give up anything: you just have to take care of it in the right way.
And if you need me, I'm always there 👇
